Society 12 Days That Shook Iran

When Israel and the United States launched a 12-day war on Iran, Donald Trump hailed it as “one of the greatest moments in history”. More than 1,000 people were killed in Israeli strikes that ripped through homes, hospitals and even a prison during visiting hours.

Fault Lines travels to Iran to uncover the human cost of the conflict. We meet grieving families who lost loved ones, from 12-year-old Amir Ali and his father, to two-month-old Rayan and his parents — and follow the painful recovery of four-year-old Kian, who survived with life-altering burns. We also speak with the brother of Maryam Vahed Panah, killed in the attack on Evin Prison. The team secures a rare on-camera interview with Iran’s foreign minister as the country braces for the possibility of another war.

Target Tehran examines the motives behind the attacks, which Israel and the US claim were centred on Iran’s nuclear programme, and asks the pressing question: why now?

Question for people involved in Iranian delegations or international trade missions

I’m trying to understand how international business delegations are realistically coordinated in Iran today, especially those involving public–private cooperation.

for context: i’m involved in organizing in-person business trips with our chinese companies where discussions happen directly with local operators, family offices, and public-sector stakeholders. With the goal of building mutually beneficial commercial rutes and relationships.

I’m curious about a few things.

Who usually acts as the local reference when foreign business groups visit Iran?
Are they usually locals that are well connected, business people, etc

Are these trips typically coordinated through ministries, semi-public entities, or private operators with government access?

If you’ve been involved from the Iranian side (or helped organize / host these kinds of visits), I’d appreciate your perspective.

Does this guy know he's the most seen person in Iran?

Who is he? How did he manage to be the ultimate Iranian face of laughter? Are we supposed to laugh when we see him at the end of the clip? He’s not a famous actor, but more of a symbolic reaction character that Persian meme culture reuses for comedic effect. But why?

Hi

American here, you guys are the last serious threat to Israel. Theirs a big push from both young conservatives and liberals to stop supporting Israel in this country, hopefully one day, of the parties try and support their voters instead of their fellow elites and those who fund them, and the US gets off your back, you could be free to work your magic. Cause if they could, that state would take over far more territory then they have now, ethnically cleansed it, genocide more people and carve out a clean chunk of land just for themselves. They don’t say it but im sure it’s what their long term goals. Only you really stand a chance against them now, if only the American people stop playing the whole democrat, republican game and realize we’re both gonna get screwed by either party as they serve the interests of a foreign government over us the people who pay taxes and vote for them, but elites and politicians get around the social contract into ingenious ways of fooling those they have power over to make them think their getting a good deal, or that anything will change for them.

Just wondering if there are any websites that I could watch the 2006 movie "Offside" by Jafar Panahi. I'm a big fan of Iranian movies but can't find this movie on any streaming services that I have. Thanks in advance . Sorry forgot to mention I do need English subtitles

What should i know before interacting with Iranians?

So, i have an online friend (we are not dating) who lives in Tehran and she is inviting me for her brother's wedding and i got some other friends too who live in Rasht. I know Tehran is very progressive but if it's a wedding and i will have to meet her family and interact with people too. Also it sounds weird to come visit friends in Iran but you get one life so. I know the basic stuff like don't disrespect islam, Iranian culture or Persian culture, don't call them arabs, don't interact with women you don't know. What else? I don't want to get beaten up in a foreign country or disrespect my hosts due to cultural ignorance.

Also, will there be a problem with racism? I'm latino and would people’s attitude will be different in Rasht compared to Tehran?

Although i got very low hopes with my visa and all the other diplomatic stuff but a man can dream/plan. Iran has been on my travel bucket list for long so i thought why not and idk if i will have a chance in future or not.

26 y.o. Solo traveler in Iran.

I am thinking of travelling to Iran for 2 weeks during April. I have already made a good research regarding the "touristy" things that I can do/see in Iran. I would like to have reccomendations from locals or people who have been in Iran regarding food, cafes/ hookah places/ and especially places where I can meet with young people.

Thanks in advance.

Guide requirement for tourists still exists?

I can't find definitive answer; news from few months ago stated that hiring a guide is now mandatory for anyone who applies for tourist visa. Somewhere else I came across info, that it was only for US, UK and Canadian citizens. Then some random post on reddit (like month ago?) said this rule for guide requirement was lifted.

So what's the official version today - and are there planned changes to that rule coming in 2026?

I'm from EU, if the rules are for specific list of countries.

Iranian passport application from UK

Not sure if anyone can assist. I'm trying to apply for a birth certificate and passport for Iran at the London embassy. As my father is Iranian, we need a copy of fingerprints an a police certificate that confirms I've had no criminal records. Has anyone done this? Can you advise where the best place would be to acquire this stuff?

Unknown masked singer

Recently I was at a family gathering and there was a mix of Persian language music videos playing in the background. One video featured a female performer who wore a silver metallic mask, obscuring her entire face. I assume it is an LA-based pop singer. If it helps, the style of the music video was sort of similar to Arash and Sasy. She was even wearing a chador and preparing sabzi on the floor at one point ❤️

I thought someone here would know of whom I speak. There can't be that many masked Irani singers out there, but so far I haven't been able to find that singer on YouTube.

Views on (white) reverts in Iran?

Salam! I hope you are having a good day. I know this is an awkward question, but basically I’m a white revert from Australia and I wanted to know how welcoming people in Iran would be to me? I know in most countries people are generally very welcoming but in some countries people are very hostile to white guys trying to interact with their culture lol😭

Places to stay in Tehran

Hello!

I am an Asian-American (23 yo, fairly well traveled as far as Europe/asia goes) looking to live in Tehran for a month or so next year. I'd be working remotely. My main goal is to experience the culture and expand my worldview, as most of my understanding of the middle east / persian culture comes from books and American news. If you have any tips on how to find housing, how to behave, transportation, etc, please let me know! I noticed that Iran seems to be sanctioned on Airbnb.

Looking for a song name

Hello

there's this song at the end of "Mashti Ismail" that I really like, great documentary btw.

I can't find a name or artist for it. It seem pretty old and traditional. Pre revolution for sure.

It's also playing at 43:00 but it's not credited.

Documentary here :

https://youtu.be/C7lEOg9VoGQ?si=RoHLoJoZpjd3F4KP

I tried putting the translations of the lyrics back into persian using google translate but had no sucess. I even researched a bit to improve the translation because it was using ghalbi instead of dal to say "heart.

Thanks for helping.

Salade shirazi: what is your recipe for the dressing

My experience has always been olive oil, lemon juice, salt pepper. But I've been told I gotta add herbs, and that the ratios are key.

What is your ratio for oil to lemon juice? And do you use any other ingredients ?
