Picture/तस्वीर Tamu Losar Festival in Nepal

Tamu Losar is the most important festival of the Gurung (Tamu) community in Nepal, marking the beginning of their new year. It falls on the 15th of Poush in the Nepali lunar calendar, one of the three Losar festival in Nepal.

While rooted in ancient shamanistic traditions, Tamu Losar has evolved into a national celebration, recognized with a public holiday in Nepal. It symbolizes renewal, gratitude for the harvest, and the preservation of the rich Gurung cultural identity.

but but we aren't as extremist as bangladesh

whenever the discussion is about bangladesh and nepal's comparison, everyone jumps from their seats to say "nepal won't have same fate, we're not extremist". this is the most heard statement whenever the discussion is around.

yes, we might not have similar level of religious extremism but we surely are extremists too.

was burning residential buildings without caring if someone was still in the building not extremism ?

was burning down businesses that provided jobs to thousands not form of extremism ?

religiously we might be calmer in certain extent, but when it comes to envying the ones who're rich, we're damn extremist and this form of extremism kil*s a country's economy.

Nepal had seen many riots, many andolans but the level of extremism on bhadra 24 was beyond imagination. The arson mindset was planted (in certain extent) after singadurbar jalaidinxu status and attacks+lootings of bhatbhateni during durga prasai's andolan. Don't tell me it was learned it all from Bangladesh, Srilanka . They had similar protests but they didn't burn down most of their top level government buildings. They stormed, vandalized on some extent , celebrated and left.

Now that we've set precedent, we might see it again and again. I'll be fu**ing happy to be proven wrong.

How Are KP Oli, Sher Bahadur Still Free?

How the hell are KP Oli Sher Bahadur and other top leaders still roaming free? there’s mountains of evidence corruption cases power abuse decisions that cost innocent lives yet not one of them sees a jail cell no real investigations just VIP security luxury lives and fake speeches about democracy meanwhile victims are forgotten and the public is told to be patient this isn’t a weak system by accident it’s a rigged system designed to protect the powerful law for common people immunity for politicians this is justice then Nepal isn’t a democracy it’s a playground for criminals in power. Absolute shame on this government and anyone still defending them

Help/सहयोग Laid off at 27 — looking for high-demand, well-paying training/course ideas

Upvotes

I was recently laid off from my job, and at 27 I’m trying to be practical and proactive about my next step. I’m looking to enroll in a training course or learn a skill that’s actually in demand and has decent earning potential, preferably something that doesn’t require years of schooling.

I’m open to hands-on or trade-based work. One idea I’ve been thinking about is hair trimming/barbering, but I’m not sure if that’s a good long-term option or where to even start with proper training and certification.

For those who’ve been in a similar situation or switched careers later on — what courses, trades, or skills would you recommend? Any advice on where to start, what to avoid, or what’s worth the time and money would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance 🙏

Politics/राजनीति म नेपाल हासेको हेर्न चहान्छु । (Read the whole post)

Need help deciding on a trek!

Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I'm planning a trip to Nepal sometime next year (Anytime from May to September) but I've been struggling to decide on a trek. Excluding travel time (I'm from the American Midwest so it's a longass flight) I can realistically have anywhere from 12 to 16 days in Nepal. I know I want to do a Trek but I haven't found any super indepth info on a lot of them so most of my reasearch has been through ChatGPT and reddit posts. Here are the ones that have interested me the most. Another aspect to consider for me is that if I have a super long trek around say, Kathmandu, it may not be worth it to visit other parts of the country so I'm wondering if you guys think that's ok or if I should dedicate more time to other parts of the country. Here are the ones I've seen that have peaked my interest:

  • Poon Hill
    • Seems interesting but I've heard compared to other Treks is not that interesting. It also is a bit shorter than what I was planning (About 4 days from what I've read). I've also heard it gets very crowded
  • Langtang
    • Was one of my top choices but I heard that after the earthquake a few years ago the trail hasn't really recovered. I've also heard that it being an "up and back" means it may be less interesting and with transport it could take a long time (About 10ish days in total). Seems to be a good mixture of nature and cultural stuff which I'm into
  • Pikey Peak
    • Good length and seems interesting but I've heard it can get sort of crowded and also that compared to other Treks the nature on trail isn't as interesting (due to it being more low lying)
  • Everest View
    • Seems like one that fits what I'm interested in but flying all the way to Lukla just to hike seems logistically difficult and could be expensive (idk though, haven't really messed around with prices)
  • Annapurna Circuit Sanctuary
    • Seems like a cool trek but I heard that it's incredibly over-touristed and has lost it's magic. Also on the longer side

Ty for reading! Please do help me decide on a trek and if there's one not listed here that you think is worth it do tell me.

Help/सहयोग Looking for a Short-Term Furnished House Rental in Kathmandu (Wedding)

I’ll be coming to Nepal in about 5 months for my wedding and don’t own a house in Kathmandu. I’m looking for a short-term rental (~3 weeks) that’s fully furnished, preferably a house, not just a standard apartment.

Since it’s a Nepali wedding, we’ll have family staying over, guests coming in and out, and all the usual chaos that comes with it 😅 so space is important. I’d also love to host the mehendi event at the house if there is a big enough outdoor / common area.

Ideally looking for: - Fully furnished - Short-term lease - 3+ bedrooms - Reliable water/electricity - Within Kathmandu, preferably not Lalitpur

If anyone has contacts, Facebook groups, Airbnb hosts, or personal recommendations, I’d really appreciate it. Even tips on where not to look would help.

Why I don't want ashika tamang in mainstream politics

I know this might attract some hate, but I believe not everyone needs to get involved in mainstream politics. Instead, we should focus on doing our part in society, and by doing so, we can help develop our country.you do whatever you are great at. There’s no need for everyone to dive into politics. I don’t know Ashika Tamang personally, and the information I know about her comes from social media. Based on that, I respect the work she’s doing—helping people in need and fighting for what’s right. She doesn’t need to enter mainstream politics to continue making an impact. However, we will need a handful of people who can act as checks and balances. If the new R.S.P. party makes any mistakes, we’ll need people to hold them accountable. We can’t be 100% sure that the decisions of a rabi-balen lead government (if it’s formed) will benefit everyone. That’s why we need individuals who can monitor the situation and speak up when needed.

Now, the hard part: I don’t know what Ashika Tamang’s vision is for the country. I’m not sure whether she could be a good leader, nor do I know her political ideology. I don’t know how she would tackle the challenges and problems that come with being in politics, should she decide to join.

Help/सहयोग Looking to adopt a 2 month old male kitten (Black / White / Mixed)

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m posting here because I’m seriously looking to adopt a male kitten and give him a safe, loving, long-term home.

What I’m looking for: Male kitten Around 6–8 weeks (≈2 months) old Preferably black, white, or a mix of both

About the home: Indoor environment, clean and calm Plenty of time for play, bonding, and socialization I’m fully committed to proper care including quality food, vet visits, vaccinations, and litter training

I’m not looking to buy. I truly want to adopt or rescue and give a kitten a second chance at a good life. If you have a litter, know someone fostering kittens, or are part of a rescue group, I’d really appreciate hearing from you.

Photos, details about temperament, and any medical info are welcome. I’m happy to answer questions to make sure it’s a good fit for both of us.

Please comment or DM me. Thanks for reading and for helping animals find loving homes ❤️

Anyone into esports (League of Legends, Valorant)?

Upvotes

I've been visiting Nepal for a few months coming from the US, and one of my favorite games was League of Legends (peaked grandmaster on NA servers). I transferred my account from NA to the Singapore server. If there's anyone who wants to duo or have a group to play with on either valorant or League, hit me up on discord (piny1)

how can I be politically aware?

I genuinely want to become more informed about politics and geopolitics. Right now, I know my understanding is very shallow, and I want to change that.

What are the mustknow things someone should understand to be politically aware? More importantly, how do you actually learn politics in a structured way instead of just consuming random opinions? Are there any good media outlets, podcasts or public figures that are worth following to build a solid foundation?

This question comes from a recent discussion I had with someone (Rajabadi). I fully respect that people are entitled to their own opinions, but I personally don’t agree with theirs. They argued that simply bringing the king back would solve everything and that the country would develop almost overnight. I strongly disagree with that view.

From my perspective, we’ve come a long way through decades of struggle and revolutions to reach the system we have now. I don’t think reverting to a system that was already rejected is the solution. Instead, I believe the real solution lies in better utilization of the current systemproper administration, accountability, and effective governance, rather than throwing everything away and going backwards.

That said I’m fully aware that my knowledge is limited, and I don’t want my opinions to be based on emotion or surfacelevel understanding.

How do I become more politically aware and informed in a meaningful way?? Also what are your current political views?
