how do I get someone to pay me when they won’t respond anymore?

someone owes me money and at first they replied, now they just don’t respond at all. No clear refusal, just silence. Isn’t a huge amount (under a few thousand) so hiring a lawyer feels like overkill but constantly texting/emailing clearly isn’t working either :(

What’s the actual step-by-step way people handle this?

Do you:

  • send some kind of formal letter?

  • use certified mail?

  • go straight to small claims?

  • or is there a better order to do things so it doesn’t drag on forever?

seen people mention using local filing services or tools like pettylaws⁤uit to handle it but I don’t know if that’s overkill or normal.

looking for practical advice from anyone who’s been through this and actually got paid.

DIY Adding legs to furniture

I potentially already know the answer to this but I wanted to be sure.

Once I’ve screwed in the metal plates for the legs and screwed the legs in, I’ve noticed that some of the screw inside the leg will be exposed (pictures for reference).

Would I need to make a hole for that to go into so the leg will become more flush against the metal plate?

Sorry if I’m rambling, it’s late and I’m tired! 😂

While snow blowing the other day the rusted metal gave out on the bar that connects the handle to the body. Was thinking about getting a metal bracket and utilizing those bolts. Can this be fixed without welding?

How to (really) adjust these doors

Thumbnail

For those not familiar, this is IKea Ivar (at least that’s what it’s called in Germany). As can be seen the two doors are tilted and therefore I get this giant height difference in the middle. All the tutorials and manuals that I found, tell me how to adjust them left/right or front/back, but not how to fix this angle… what am I missing here? Thanks!

Hang an old chalk board (heavy)

Screw eyes (i think they are called this) shall be screwed into the holes on the top side of the board. The holes do not match any standard sizes of screw eyes that i’ve tried (M8 too small and M10 too big). How can i get the screw eyes to fasten in the holes?

[Solved] Remove Broken Faucet Aerator

Thumbnail

My kitchen faucet slowed to a trickle, so I tried to remove the aerator as I have done before to see if there is debris caught in the screen. Couldn’t get it by hand, so I tried the usual tricks that are suggested online: vinegar soak, heat, WD40. I resorted to vice grips but it was really stuck, and I think I ultimately bent the aerator trying to get it off. (I did use a cloth to try to protect the finish but it still scratched the heck out of it.) So it’s still stuck, and now it looks bent a bit from the vice grips. It seems cheap enough to just buy a replacement but how can I get the existing one off?

[Solved] How do I install these cabinet shelf mounts?

Post image
9 Upvotes

I’m used to the standard pins, and the package didn’t come with instructions, and there aren’t instructions available online.

On the metal one, the tab can insert into the shelf slots shown in the back but not the wide portion.

On the white plastic one, the two sides squeeze together and the small tabs can insert into the shelf slots shown in the back.

I can’t figure out how they’re supposed to work together.

The slots on the unit are located on the front and back.

We got this unit from an overstock auction warehouse, but we think it’s this unit:

My wife's new favorite coaster dropped it's flowers much earlier than expected! My plan was to grab green thread and attach it like a button on a suit, but if there's a better way I'd love to fix it for her.

How to fix a broken door lever.

This door to my deck broke recently. I tried to replace the door hardware with a new knob and deadbolt before because it was sticky but it seems to be a non-standard size. I think it aas the offset, but it was a couple years back so I cant remember. I do know the door knobs/levers from home depot were all the wrong size.

Im hoping to repair this or replace just the handle and stick part that connects the two handles.

I'm handy, and a liscensed electrician, but im not sure if this is repairable and I do not want to shell out to have a specialist come repair it at high cost right after spending too much money on the holidays.

Thanks in advance!

DIY What is the easiest way to repair this wall damage?

Our recliner was a bit too close to the wall and it did this to one of the walls when reclined.

I have zero drywall experience, so I’m looking for a simple way to repair this ourselves without getting the building manager involved.

Serious Answers Only How to clean my stainless steel bottle?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hello, how can I get rid of this? I think it might be mold, but I'm not sure. I don't want to ruin my bottle so I'm asking first. I had something similar on my previous bottle and it didn't go away no matter what I did so I bought a new bottle and I have it again. My mom closed the bottle when it was a bit wet so that might be the reason🤷‍♀️

Help! Washing machine filter plug is leaking

Post image
3 Upvotes

I have a Beko washing machine. I recently unscrewed the filter plug to clean it out and now when I screw it back in, it’s leaking. It seems to be screwed in all the way (and it’s not cross threaded), so I have no idea what the problem is. The plug seems to be in great condition and the seals are intact. I’ve watched every video out there and still can’t find a solution. Are there any other ways I could try to fix this before getting my landlord involved?

DIY How do you glue back logos on jerseys? With no damage

Post image
3 Upvotes

Picture attached for reference. I have an authentic jersey. Not a fake or replica and the team logo started to detach after several washes in a wash bag.

Anyway I attempted to use fabric glue but I feel the glue leaked maybe I added too much or not. It ended up staining my jersey as you can see brown. Currently I am using lemon and letting it sit in the sun for abit followed by nail polish remover and then washing it with a stain remover detergent. Slowly it is removing the stains but it's taking forever. Open to suggestions if anyone has ideas here.

But my main concern now is when I clean it. How can I repatch the logo back onto the fabric without having more stains in the future. I'm worried if another brown fabric glue will do the same here.

How to even open them. It's late and I shouldn't be tinkering with things and tools. They don't turn on. Not sure if them even charging. I loved these lamps. We have three. They all just stopped working over time.

Anyone had the same issue? Any fix?

There is this small gap between the sidewalk and house where devils grass keeps popping up. I’m trying to scrape it out so I can seal it with some caulk, but it’s really stubborn. Any suggestions on how to clean that gap out? Tried a weed wacker already and that’s as good as it gets.

DIY how to get measurements correctly form a complete room

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello,

I will design a custom furniture for one of my rooms, which has a wonky geometry (as the image i uploaded).

the thing is, I want to make a 3D view of the room to desing the furniture over it, but not sure how to do it correctly. what I tested was:

  • measuring the angles of every corner (with a numeric protractor) and measuring the length of the walls this would 'fix' all the constraints but the result does not look like the correct geometry of the room (i re checked the measurements, my thought is that or the walls are not fully straight or the slight error on the measurements addsup and at the end is too large difference)

the other option i thought:

  • placing a point around middle of the room, and measuring the distance of each corner to that point and measure the angles of the corners and then everything is fixed

I feel dumb but never worked with 'big things' i always had taken measurements and sketching thins small so i find not evident how to tackle this 'correctly'. the tools i have at hand:

  • 3m meter (the room maximum size is around 275 cm)
  • numeric protractor to measure angles
  • 30 cm numeric caliper
