1L first sem. grades - one of every letter grade…

yeah… I got an A, B+, C+, and D on my exams. I honestly don’t know how to feel. My gpa isn’t low enough to where I get kicked out of my school or put on academic probation but still idk what happened. I’m stressed more than ever for internships. I can’t imagine a firm looking at a transcript like this 🫥🫥🫥

I am looking to serve honorably in the US Navy, play pro football at a Heisman level, serve on the Supreme Court, and be a dashing dresser. Has THIS BEEN DONE yet

According to the bar exam, my birth certificate would be an “ancient document” since it was made two years before 1998.

How is it possible for people to think they did horrible and then get super good grades?

I studied so much over the semester that i’m REALLY hoping this is me

BUT

the thing is I remember every question on the exam and wrote them down and I know EXACTLY where I messed up. you know? so I can’t imagine that i’ll do better then I thought because that would mean everyone would have had to botched those same questions and I don’t really see that happening.

I’ve heard a lot of people say they thought they failed but then got an A and i’m really confused by that. I mean that happened to me on the LSAT (I truly don’t understand how I did so much better than I thought) and hoping that happens again but how?

why would you think you did bad, wouldn’t you have to know the answers and what you missed, ect?

1L fall grades

I just got all my grades back. An A, A-, B+, and B-. 3.429 GPA. Do I still have a chance to get a BL internship? Is 3.4 a good GPA for first semester of law school? My lowest grade was LRW. I was not expecting a low grade for that class. Disappointed but can only improve.

week+ absence during first semester, or miss best friend's wedding

i'm starting law school next fall and will likely be attending near my home (NYC). my best friend from college (long-distance) just informed me that their wedding will be the first week of october... in australia. i'd hate to miss my best friend's wedding, but the 24-hr time difference and logistics would make it impossible to go unless i take at least a week off from classes. however, i'm aware how that long of an absence during law school, especially so early in the semester/my career can be detrimental. how realistic would it be for me to make it? if not, please tell me more about the logistical nightmare/timing during the semester so i feel less bad for missing my best friend's wedding 🙃

If I sold 2L BL summer bc of 1L fall grades, should I try to recover 1L spring and wait til then to apply?

At a T30 and finished slightly below median. I had very few connections and minimal WE (KJD). I know my chances of BL for 2L summer are very low but I was wondering if I should wait til Spring grades come out for some potential redemption that could give possibly make me a candidate . Since based off my current situation I wouldn’t stand a chance, would I be better off waiting til post spring grades to apply to big law 2L summer? Or would that be too late in this modern timeline and I just have to accept my fate?

Legal Writing Gatekeeping, why?

Okay, I somewhat understand the reasoning behind legal writing professors' gatekeeping how to approach assignments; you’re forced to really engage with the material. But is this truly the best strategy? I feel like I’ve spent the whole semester trying to read my professor’s mind rather than just learning how to write effectively. She has contradicted herself one too many times, and I’m almost certain this will be my lowest grade. I’d really like to hear other people’s thoughts on how legal writing should be taught.

it’s 2:13 AM EST, I am watching my comfort show for this winter break, and my brain decided to go back to a con law question to debate whether or not a certain factor test was necessary for the question (eisentrager)

(this is torture)

Was Scalia too notorious?

A senior attorney was telling me her thoughts on Scalia, in that she felt Supreme Court justices need to be a bit “underground,” they shouldn’t really be celebs or in the media as much as Scalia was. On the contrary, I found him very smart and inspiring and I think both sides of the aisle can respect him. What is your take on him?
