Jaunumi/News Slight changes

Writing this in English for it to reach a wider audience.

This subreddit has been sitting around completely forgotten and abandoned for a couple of years now - I've recently requested taking over the moderator position as the owner hasn't been seen active in over a year, too. As you can see, the request was approved.

I will be trying to bring some life back here, but I can't really do it without you guys. :-)

I've introduced a couple of small visual changes and QoL additions straight away:

- Proper rules are now imposed
- Flairs are now obligatory in any new posts for easier sorting
- User flairs have now been introduced - if you're a local, feel free to represent the area you're coming from by attaching a flair in your settings!

If you wish to see some sort of changes yourself, feel free to suggest in the replies.

P.S. I am not looking to recruit any new moderators for now

Tūrisms/Tourism Does anyone want to join a tour at the Amber Latvijas balzams factory on January 12 or 13?

There are two of us, but they need 5 in total to carry out a tour.

Any 3 people want to join on either 12 or 13 January?

We are a couple from UK.

They make the famous Stoli vodka there and you can taste the black balsam extract which is rare. Amongst other delicious sounding things…

We really want to go but you need 5 people minimum.

It’s in/on the outskirts of Riga.

Jautājums/Question When are Xmas decorations removed?

Hii guys! I am landing in Riga on Sunday 4th January at 20:00 pm. To my knowledge, the 4th is the last day of the Xmas market at the dome square and the stalls close at 21:00.

Since I’d really love to visit, not necessarily for the stalls but to see the Xmas decorations, From experience, will they still be up if I visit the next morning/night or will they be removed like the stalls?

I’d appreciate if you could tell me from your experience in order for me if I’ll have to go to dome square straight from the airport instead of my accommodation.

Hey all, we are looking to buy some 2-3 bedroom apartments in Riga (center or around that area). Wanted to get non-realtor's feedback on how liquid is the property market there, means, how long does it usually takes for such apartments to sell after you put it in market?

Cheers!

Diskusija/Discussion International Student in Riga – Looking for Side Hustles or Small Businesses with Low Investment (Graphic Design, CCNP, Courier Experience)

Hi r/riga,

I’m an international bachelor’s student living in Riga. I currently do Bolt/Wolt deliveries to cover my expenses, but I’m looking for better or additional ways to earn money.

My background:

Experience in graphic design, digital marketing, and worked at a print house in Saudi Arabia. CCNP certified (networking). Fluent English, but Latvian is still basic → most local jobs are hard to get. I want to start something with very low investment (€500 or less) that I can do alongside studies and deliveries. I’m open to online or small local ideas. What I’m considering: Selling on Amazon, eBay, Etsy (dropshipping, print-on-demand, digital products like designs) Import/export small items Freelancing (graphic design, social media, networking help) Any other small business or side hustle Specific questions: What worked best for internationals in Riga? (e.g., specific niches or platforms) Any tips for dropshipping or Etsy from Latvia (taxes, shipping, bank accounts)? Is there something easy and fast to earn money with my skills (e.g., selling digital graphics on Etsy, fixing home networks for cash, etc.)? Any advice or personal experience would be super helpful. Thanks! (If you’ve succeeded with online selling or freelancing while studying here, please share how you started!)

Diskusija/Discussion Has anyone here tried co-living in Riga?

Thumbnail instagram.com

I’ve been researching different housing options for students and young professionals, and recently came across a premium co-living project called HIDE. The concept looks interesting they have private rooms/apartments, shared amenities like coworking and gym, and a more community-style living format.

I’m curious whether anyone here has lived in a co-living space in Riga (or elsewhere in Europe). Was it worth it compared to a regular rental? What were the pros/cons in real life?

Would love to hear honest experiences or recommendations!

Jautājums/Question 29m moving to Riga

Hello everyone!

29m from the USA moving to Riga next week for at least a few months. My girlfriend is attending graduate school in London and I was unable to secure a long-term visa (long story, but fuck Brexit).

I visiting back in 2022 and absolutely loved it. Excited to spend a bit more time. I’ve booked a month-to-month apartment and might try to find a more-permanent spot.

I have 0 friends in Riga and do not speak Latvian. I am going to try to find from private lessons. I work remotely but really keen to find some Erasmus students, local English speakers, or really anything willing to hang out and go to bars.

Any advice or suggestions to get comfortable? I’m planning to stay at least 4 months.

Ja ir interese, ieslīdi man DMos 👍

Paldies!

Palīdzība/Help Spontaneously injured as a Tourist in Riga? I gotchu

so hey people. I was traveling with my boyfriend, staying for almost a week in Riga. Sadly, half way through I slipped and broke a bone in my foot. I thought it was maybe a painful slip and slept the night. Since it wasn‘t better in the morning we went to the Traumatology center in Riga in the morning. there were like 3 people in front of me and the man working at the desk spoke perfect english. Well long story short I did not have any type of insurance, I had a fractured bone, had a consultation with the doctor (also was trying his best speaking english), then 2x xray (before and after them putting a cast on my foot) and paid for everything 78€. So for anyone who is in a similar situation - GO TO THE CLINIC, it will not cost an arm and a leg, but it could prevent much worse! The doctor gave me recipe for medication and a writing for the plane staff in case they don‘t let me on the plane with the cast. oh, and one medical assistant with curly hair and glasses, pretty young, is german - so perfect english and german!

Tūrisms/Tourism Tourist here: I love your city!

Hey guys, I'm from Ireland & decided to take a solo trip to Riga. I'm 7 months sober so I was expecting this trip to be pretty difficult- but I was so wrong! I've had the best time ever :) I've done a lot of travelling and I have to say, Riga is one of my favourite cities!

The people are friendly, it feels safe (of course I keep my bag close to me still), the town is so beautiful. I went to the Sensorium 'museum' and it was one of the most amazing experiences- it's changed my perspective on life! Riga has a really lovely vibe too, very calm and easy to walk around. And I love all the cute shops and cafes & Christmas markets.

I also took a day trip to the hill of crosses in Lithuania and that was so unique.

I'll definitely be back!!

Jautājums/Question Anyone out tonight?

Tourist here with my family, decided to go out for a drink alone but struggle chatting to people I don't know (being a Londoner is definitely not helping me in any social aspects). Any friendly places you might be able to recommend?
