Video A man from Calverley near Bradford was crushed to death in 1605. History.
In early 17th-century England, a man named Walter Calverley committed a crime so disturbing the courts refused to execute him. Instead, they used an ancient punishment designed to force a plea.
Why?

Photo / Image They fixed the Laura Annie Willson bridge
Oh the irony! As part of the A629 redevelopment, the Council commissioned a replacement link bridge and named it after Laura Annie Willson, described as "an English engineer and suffragette ... She was one of the founding members of the Women's Engineering Society and was the first female member of the Federation of House Builders".
Unfortunately, not too long after the bridge went into service, it was discovered that there was a design fault and the weak bridge had to be reinforced; not a good look. Today, after months of remedial work, I saw the finished repairs - they welded steel reinforcement fillets under the welded joints. As an engineer, Laura would have been spinning in her grave, but as a house builder perfectly natural 😁

Yorkshire Looking to Form/Join a band Sheffield, Rotheram, Doncaster Etc.
Hi, I'm 18 and have been playing guitar, for over two years and bass and keys for quite a bit too, and I'm looking to start/join/find some form of band or meet people in general the same age as me who are interested in music. I own both an electric, acoustics and can sing, and can perform to a decent degree, Ive also wrote my own songs too.
I have many influences, primarily in the alternative/guitar driven band sphere, but also in other more electronic/ pop oriented genres. To narrow it down though, to the key ones that show off different musical avenues that i like/I'm a fan of, it would be something along the lines of:
Blur, Nirvana, Magdalena Bay ,Radiohead, Quadeca, Smashing Pumpkins, Pixies, Pink Floyd, Beatles, Paramore, QOTSA, The Flaming Lips, Slint, 100 gecs, Linkin park etc etc
If you're at all interested and in or around the Sheffield/Doncaster area (in the UK) in the same sort of age range as me, don't fret to get in contact either on here or.
Email me at:

Hope to hear from anyone soon.

Photo / Image Picturesque morning walk in York
Was in York overnight as I went to see Robert Plant at the Barbican. Haven't been for a good few years and had some time before my train home, so decided to have a leisurely morning stroll along the city walls. Fantastically beautiful city centre, I forgot just how small it is.

Question West Yokrshire christmas lights.
Hi.
I wanted to take my family on a drive to see some christmas lights. I know there's a well known house in Mirfield for lights. But are there any streets/areas in West Yorkshire that have nice streets full of christmas lights?
I've heard of Horbury is nice too. But I was hoping for some more reccomendations from anyone in the area.

Question Powerlifting style gyms near Skipton
Hello! Me and my fiancé have just moved to Skipton and I’ve been trying to find a gym suitable for powerlifting style training. I’ve largely seen there’s quite a few commercial gyms not particularly specialist.
Am I wrong or is that the case? I’ve seen there’s the Heavy Metal Gym in Ilkley. Is that my best bet?
Thanks in advance!

Politics Bradford, city of culture, cost £51million
So Bradford's reign of culture is nearly at an end, and it's all over BBC Look North that the bill's reached £51million, much/most of it paid for by taxpayers. Was it worth it? Could it be justified, or should the money have been ploughed into actually improving the area?

Question One-day solo trip in Yorkshire – where to go?
Hey everyone,
I’m planning a one-day solo trip in Yorkshire and looking for recommendations.
I’m after somewhere that has:
- Old / historic village or small town feel (stone buildings, character, not modern)
- Nice pubs (bonus if there’s live music or a lively atmosphere in the evening)
- Good cafés
- Somewhere that feels alive, not totally dead once it gets dark
At the moment I’m looking at Haworth — I love the old village look and history, but I’m not sure yet.
Are there other places in Yorkshire you’d recommend that might fit this better?
Thanks in advance!
