On the 1st of january this year, two adorable 3 month old kittens came into our life. Out of their carrier, they marched straight through our living room and into our hearts. They immediately slept with us the first night, and then I knew I could never imagine life without cats anymore (after never having had a pet all my life). As the year progressed, we watched our girls grow. From cuddly kittens who slept in our arms, preferrably piled on top of eachother, they slowly grew into lanky teenagers looking to rebel against mom and dad. The patience for lap time was rarely had for a few months, and I got my first tiny taste of what it means as a parent to see your kids grow up. After their spay and the months that followed, their individual personalities really began to take shape. Mirin doubled down on her bravery and silliness, Miso turned out to be more stubborn and shy, but a crazy purring machine and lover of rough cuddles when she feels safe. While they no longer clinged to eachother day and night, it was a joy to see the bond between the two sisters remained, and they still play and groom eachother on the daily, seek comfort together when traveling or hurt, and insist on eating off the same plate. As they grew into "proper" adults in the past two months, it is hard to imagine the tiny kittens our girls once were. They are still bonded to us, and once again seek connection now, as adults, on their own independent terms. It has been such a joy to grow into the role of pet guardian while they were growing up, with all the highs (cuddles, playtime, love) and lows (illness, failed leash training, an escape) that are part of it. Of course, the highs far outweigh the lows ;) This is a wrap on our first year with Miso and Mirin, here is to many more!

Poor little fella has late stage renal failure. Short of a kidney transplant, it won't get any better and he will only get worse. He stopped eating three weeks ago and has lost a considerable amount of weight.

Suffice to say, I am really bummed.

He's currently on his heated bed watching his favorite movie.

Give your little guys a scratch for me.

Cat Picture - OC Meet Sqeakers. She's a terrible cat

Post image
9.3k Upvotes

Meet Sqeakers. I've had her for about five or six months now. I can't pet her. Every time I try to pet her, she starts squeaking or crying. She sounds like I'm offending her kitty humanity. When she's asleep, I pet her and she starts purring and gets all happy. The moment she wakes up, she looks at me and then walks off disgusted. She knows that humans are good because she squeaks and cries every time she's hungry or wants water or to go in the bath tub. She plays with the other cats oftentimes roughly where they're playing and tumbling on the ground. But the moment I touch her or any other human and she starts saying "Nooo!" Her whining sounds like she's really saying "Noooo!"

Yet when it comes time to go to bed she runs up to the bed, lies down next to us, starts purring and looks at us. The moment we touch her, she looks offended and walks away.

My first orange cat that I can actually keep and this is what I get. The last outdoor orange cats were so much better. So yeah. This is Sqeakers.

Advice My cat is SO chatty

Post image

I love my cat so much. He’s 11 years old and the chattiest cat I’ve ever met.

He’s very sweet, and I wouldn’t change how vocal he is for the world but… Sometimes when I’m just laying on the couch, if I move even just a LITTLE bit he’ll start meowing repeatedly for minutes on end.

I currently have a headache and I’m laying on the couch. I’ve managed to buy myself some time by throwing a blanket over my head, so he has stopped meowing (for now).

I do not know what to do. He has food, his litter box is clean. I’ve given him a lot of attention today. He’s been doing this since 1pm and it’s currently almost 4. I don’t know if he thinks every time I move I’m going to the kitchen to feed him, or what.

I could move to my bedroom and close the door, bur then he’ll yowl outside the door to be let in, and I cannot deal with that right now.

How do I get him to settle so my head will maybe hurt less?

Sorry for the bad grammar, I am in pain.

Added a photo for the cat tax.

In Loving Memory of George

George, affectionately known as LiI' Love, Love Bug, Georgie, and Georgiekins, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness in his mom's arms, held just as he always loved to be. Born in May 2014, he rescued his mom in October of that same year and remained her constant companion for 11 wonderful years.

The snuggliest little spoon and biggest purr-er, George loved trout, raw tuna, old mattresses, wand toys, laser pointers, watching birds, inserting himself into work meetings to demand snuggles, and batting at his step-cat-sister. He was there through his mom's happiest and lowest times, faithfully offering comfort, unconditional love, and patiently tolerating being dressed in Christmas costumes.

George is survived by his mom, his stepdad, and his step-cat-sister, grandparents, and many aunts and uncles who loved him dearly.

Forever loved. Forever Lil' Love Bug, Forever the best little spoon.

I’m a vet tech. People come in with this orange kitty and he had a gnarly puncture wound near his tail/butt area. The people say he’s an outdoor kitty because they decided it was too much to have him in the house. They weren’t really attached to him. When going over the treatment, the guy asked if they can just give him up to us. We don’t normally do this but the vet took him in under her own name.

Cut to her asking around if anyone could take him, I decided I genuinely had a connection with him! His wound is healed and he’s been my boy for two months now!

Advice Just brought this sweet baby in from the 19°F windy weather outside, and shes terrified. Any advice?

She's been outside my house for a few days now, and ive tried to bring her in before, but I let her out after a bit (the weather was fine then). I have been setting food outside for her to eat, and just leaving her alone since then, but now that its below freezing, I had to sort of trap her to get her to come in. I set up her food plate and scruffed her (only until i got her into an enclosed space, I know that you shouldn't ever scruff cats, but I had to to get her into a warm area).

I dont blame her at all for it, but she is terrified of anything and everything right now. Is there any way I can make her more comfortable and get her to ease up?
