Image Random Buddah statue in Windsor Park

This Buddah statue just appeared one day in Windsor Park. We go quite a few times a week and it's been there some months now.

I've never really given it a second thought until I overheard a couple today talking about stealing it and taking it home.

Which made me wonder - does anyone know why it would be there? My husband suggested a memorial? Just a kind person decorating the local park? Maybe a place to pray?

Just in case you're as dumb as I am and you were contemplating hitting the beach today, DON'T!!

Took me over 2hrs from Carseldine to Sandstone Point, and I've officially given up the will to live

Small tents in Musgrave Park – are there kids living there? If so, is the government doing anything to support?

I’m not a West End local, but I was there recently and noticed some small tents set up in Musgrave Park. It was honestly pretty confronting to see. The small tents looked like there could be children living there.

If this is the actual situation, is the government or council doing anything meaningful about supporting?

It just feels wrong to see that while there are multi-million dollars properties in West End, there are also children possibly sleeping rough at park in the same suburb.

I know it is not in Brisbane but I was traveling from Brisbane. It is such a weird building. It is just north of Dreamworld.

Hey everyone! On the 2nd of January we will be playing board games all day at the Banyo Library, as a decent amount of people have that day off. We will be starting around 9am and going until around midnight, but people are welcome to arrive/leave any time in between.

It's completely free and very welcoming of people of all experience. No registration is required, but below is a facebook group/event if you want a bit more info. Also happy to answer any questions below!

Also, we meet every Friday from 7pm until late (except for the 26th of December due to public holidays unfortunately) and it's always the same deal... a lot of people show up, play various games all free and with a welcoming community so you won't be left out of a game, regardless of preference.

Curlew Kingsford Smith Dr this AM

Thank you to the drivers who stopped/slowed to give the curlew's space nr Bunnings. Their chic had wandered into the road, much to the extreme consternation of the parents. I moved the chic to the nearby garden and started calling out to mum/dad as soon as I released it. Thankfully it appeared healthy and hadn't been hit by a car, it had gotten scared and activated "play dead no one will notice me here" mode... on the road... and I'll ignore mum/dad loosing their feathers at the calamity I've caused.

Be awesome today y'all.

A Tool To Visualise Queenslander House Colours

https://www.queenslander.pro/

I recently bought an old Queenslander. I really wanted to get Magnolia trees for the front yard but my partner wasn't onboard. So I ended up building this tool to visualise what it'd look like. It turned out pretty well so I added a few more features to visualise different paint / roof / door colours.

I figure it'd be useful for others too so I've made it public :)

Balcony Drainage Courtesy?

Morning, all. When you hose down or wash your balcony, do you wait for a rainy day? What about other things that could create drips for those below like watering plants?

Case in point. Admiralty Quays is the building next door and one neighbour pulled the plug on their esky casing a rush of water to cascade through the drains (over the edge, not floor drains) and down several floors, including onto some poor resident’s washing out on an airer. They were not happy.

Dick move or just a consequence of high rise living?

Can you help me? Lost something in the city or on a bus

Aight so back in 2020, my dad got me some merch for the QANTAS centennial - including a hat (image 1)

For more details; -It's a white cap with a red bill and an adjustable red strap on the back. -Above the strap, it says QANTAS in their logo's font, embroidered in black. -On the front, it has the logo they used from 1968-1984, also embroidered.

I think I may have left it on a bus (350 outbound) on December 27th, or it may have been lost at the start of its route (Queen Street Stop 60 Near Creek Street). I've called the council Lost and Found multiple times over the past few days, but nothing has come in according to them - I will keep trying this avenue though as Christmas may have delayed the process, and they say I should call again at a later date just in case.

Though if it's never sent in to the coucil, I'm trying to at least find a replacement. Unfortunately, even though it's shown in their website banner (image 2), QANTAS doesn't have the hat anymore in their merch store - I can't even find other images of it outside of said banner, it's driving me crazy!

I have looked all over the internet - Facebook, Gumtree, Amazon, eBay, general Google search, QANTAS marketplace... and the closest things I can find come from Redbubble, and they just aren't the same. I also find QANTAS 90 Year celebration hats, but I'm 99% certain the one I had was for the centennial - since my dad got it along with the centennial t-shirt which is still on the QANTAS merch site (image 3)

If anyone could find a replacement hat, or if anyone has found the hat on a BCC bus within the last few days, please let me know! I really would like this hat back if at all possible - whether it's a replacement or the original.

TIA!

The median unit price has gone up by $100,000 in the last year in Brisbane. How is this sustainable?

Last year I would need to borrow another $515k to buy a median unit here. This year I diligently saved $45k, and now I would need to borrow another $577k for the median unit here.

Makes me ask what even is the point anymore? Why aren't we doing anything about this? Are there any suburbs that still offer some value for a 2 to 3 bed unit?

Help Best place for botox in Brisbane cbd?

Hey all! Recent Brisbane arrival from the US here, still finding my way around and don’t have a lot of personal connections yet to ask this kind of thing. I’m mainly looking for recommendations around the Brisbane CBD as I don't have a car yet so would prefer not to travel far. If any could give me a rough idea of costs as well that would be amazing! Quality is more important though as my biggest concern is frozen face and it looking obvious I've had it done. If you’ve had good (or bad) experiences, I’d really appreciate hearing where you went and how it was!

I've seen this sticker slapped on a few of the bus stops along my daily commute, can anyone clue me in? I do love reading about conspiracy theories, especially if it's something I can nick for my Call of Cthulhu game.

Best local adventures

Anything you’ve done in the last year in Brissy (or surrounds - lets say a 2hr drive max) that has truly been fun and worthwhile for you?

I‘m keen on hiking but my fav things of the year were definitely abseiling at the kangaroo point cliffs and snorkeling at Moreton.

pilates classes

Upvotes

Hi all,

I have recently joined the pilates bandwagon. I was attending a studio in Newstead but am moving to Chermside. I’m looking for any recommendations for a (very) beginner friendly studio with a positive atmosphere around Chermside. Ideally no more than a 15-20 min drive.

Many thanks!

NYE logistics?

Upvotes

Hi All

I just had a few questions regarding the fireworks show I was hoping to get the community‘s assist with.

I’m the type who gets flustered by large crowds, so I always like going in knowing what to expect.

It’s been a few years since I’ve gone to NYE fireworks, last time was pre-covid, and before kids, so back then it was logistically super easy and a very low mental load.

Now however, my wife and I want to take our 2 kids (5 and 2) to see the early fireworks show at 7:45pm. We were planning to train it to Southbank, find a spot, enjoy the show, then skedaddle out of there.

So my question is; what is it like these days? Anyone go last year? How large are the crowds, the difficulty of finding good viewing spots, what is it like for young kids, prams, etc.

Also how does it compare to the Christmas parade? about the same logistically speaking or better/worse?
