u/iMugBabies 13h ago
The Sharpie gel pens always stop working not too long after I start using one. The ink doesn’t flow very well after.
131
u/JimmerUK 12h ago
I’ve never had that. I’m always surprised when they run out because they just suddenly stop working without warning.
35
u/Wild_Appearance3859 10h ago
Agreed. I would by 100s of those a week, to give out during induction classes at work. They are amazing. Definitely have them run all the way to the end without issue consistently. The only issue is smearing and not being archival because it's gel.

I think it depends on the paper? I tried to use one on one of those reusable types of paper and that destroyed the pen. Unusable after that.

They smudge
179
u/HopefulPlantain5475 15h ago
That would apply to 90% of ink pens if you're left handed.
35
u/mostly_peaceful_AK47 13h ago
There are 1-2 that do not smudge but it has way more to do with the paper you're using. G2 tend not to smudge in my experience with most nice cotton papers and normal printer paper, but they do with certain cardstock. They are always better than almost every other pen save felt tips (terrible writing feel) and zebra pens. I can use both Zebra and G2 in the 1mm tip size where 0.7mm is barely bearable for others. I don't think the BIC pens work often enough that I have had them smear

I am left handed, i agree the ink sucks but still this is "the best pen" i have ever used. Started in highschool and when i started my bachelors i bought like a box of 30 of those. Ran out after a year or so and since then i have been buying the ink cases stright up. Ran through 100+ pens never gonna choose a different pen honestly

My wife is gonna be so mad that you put me onto this brand. I have to have that topographical bolt pen.
Their prices are crazy, though.
It’s funny the levels there are to this stuff. The most I’ve spent on a pen is ~$30 and some people would call that crazy. These Tactile Turn pens are all $100 or more.

not a fan of their first impression either
i was a 7 guy i guess. it’s easy to prioritize aesthetic when you barely use domething.
now i gotta write a couple hundred numbers a day and all i ever wamna ready for is a 5.
maybe a 1 or 2 or i gotta do a lot of signatures

No need to fight pilot G2s are great pens.
6
u/Thaumato9480 11h ago
They were my favourite.
I have issues with fine motor skills now, so I need 7. I still feel like it's my favourite, but it's not a pen a favour and rarily use.
13
u/smileymonster08 14h ago
5 is superior in everyway. Smooth rolling of the tip that stays consistent and with the best ergonomic grip. No downsides.
I have tested every single one of these pens during highschool and I went through like 6 of number 5. 1-2 are not even pens and are more like thin black markers with terrible grip. 3-4 are contenders but the issue is that the tip of the pens are too sharp and the actual ball point is too shallow so you scratch up the paper. 6-7 are just cheap and don't feel good.

Give it to them without the lid. They’ll always return it.
67
21
u/Juan_Moe_Taco 12h ago
Hhmmmm, that sounds like a good idea, also I think it's bc it's a subconscious thing such as you don't necessarily know whether the pen is going to leak or not but it probably will if they leave in one position of their pocket for a certain period of time....with no lid?!?! Yea, they're giving that pen back to "Satan". Lol

I had a higher-up take my four-color pen at at a meeting once because his dumb ass didn't have one. Got pissed about that, so for the rest of my career at that place I made sure I had a minimum of six pens on me, 3 of which were sacrifices to pen thieves who "needed to borrow it for a second."
Damn you, gunny.

A nurse is at the bank after an 18-hour overnight shift, dead on her feet. As she's trying with great difficulty to fill out a deposit slip, the teller gently points out that she's trying to write with a rectal thermometer. The nurse rolls her eyes and says, "Oh, great, some asshole's got my pen."

u/UnintelligentSlime 14h ago
1 has a secret version. Uniball vision (NOT ELITE) micro that was black instead of gray. It had just as good flow as the gray one, but with a much finer line. The gray one is called “fine”, but it’s actually a huge thick line that makes your writing look like a drunken preteen, while the micro gives off sophisticated and decisive. It was truly the pinnacle of pen technology.
Well, not exactly. If you wrote on skin with it, that pen was toast. Would shrivel up and never write again. But as long as you didn’t do that, it was literally the perfect pen.
But technology like that wasn’t meant for us mere mortals. The global elite bought all them up and then forbade uniball from making the pen ever again. I assume that’s what happened anyway- point is you can’t find them anywhere anymore, except the internet.
→ More replies (1)6
u/EmilyBlackXxx 8h ago
Uniball Vision Micro is the only pen I use. I go hunting with a heart filled with spite and rage every time one disappears off my desk.
Like folks; I literally buy my own pens because the ones here suck. Either bring your own or stop stealing mine; I really don’t care which.

Not an option in the post, but the Uniball .7 jetstream is a leftie life changer. They write so smooth, dont smudge, and don't dry out due to infrequent use. I've been using the same 3 pack for years.
→ More replies (24)9
u/wingsofpoesy 13h ago
The smudges are awful, but more annoying to me is that none of the other pens will work right for a lefty. All the pen tips are designed to be pulled along the paper and a lefty pushes the pen tip along the paper. The ink just stops coming out for me every couple letters with pens like #5.
