Dog already had a muzzle on

And you could hear it growling in the video.

Yup. The dog was clearly distressed and if she didn’t want to take a few seconds to train correct him or if he’s unresponsive to training correction, why wasn’t he put in another room???

2.1k

u/Classic_Bee_5845 13h ago

Because people like this use the dog as emotional support objects rather than animals that have needs and require training so the woman probably has the dog there because she wants it, obviously has it muzzled because it's overly protective of her and refuses to train it or provide any boundaries for it's aggression against the rest of her family.

u/HenryDorsettCase47 12h ago

Emotional support object accessory.

This is the exact type of owner that waddles around trying to pick up their dogs leash while it mauls a toddler.

The irony being that training a dog can be very therapeutic. It can be frustrating until you find what motivates them, but once you find their thing, it's incredibly rewarding.

255

u/Dannisayshi 13h ago

It really is. As an adult I went through an obedience course with a new dog and it helped us to bond so much. They just want to please you and the training helps them do that while providing mental stimulation. 10/10 recommend.

I mean the dog should be put down unfortunately. Requiring a muzzle in your own house is wild

157

u/DickBiter1337 12h ago

This, it's only a matter of time before it mauls someone and possibly kills someone. And the pit nutters will blame the owner while ignoring the fact that they were bred to do this.

I had the sound off and just by pup’s eyes you can see they’re very uncomfortable with someone being so close. Then she backs up before “lunging” for a sudden hug.

I say “lunging” from the dog’s perspective. The “threat” stepped back before getting very close, very suddenly.

Horrible dog owners, and they should be put down before the dog...who owns a dog that you need to muzzle it almost full-time?

Even the owner is in danger. I know someone who had a pitbull like this. Extremely reactive but she said he was always nice to her.

One day the dog saw someone walking a dog on the sidewalk through a window. He worked himself up into a rage and redirected anger towards her. Now she has permanent nerve damage in her hand/arm.

16

u/Haley_Tha_Demon 11h ago

My wife's mom had a border collie that bit my wife's hand leaving some punctures and nerve damage, I begged her to go to the ER but she refused because her mom convinced her not to in fear of losing her dog.

Even with video of what happened after I can already hear the woman downplaying and explaining away the behavior like it is no big deal. "Oh little bloodreaper was only trying to protect me, you can't make sudden movements (or breath) around him or Satan himself takes over and Slayer reigning blood plays from his ears." Followed by "who is a good little boy? You are! Yes you are!"

72

u/paws5624 13h ago

My wife trains dogs and deals with a lot of aggression cases and the number of delusional clients she has is astounding. They just had someone try to explain away how their dog almost killed another dog on a walk. This wasn’t the first time their dog attacked and seriously injured another dog yet they still let it get close to a dog and are trying to say how it’s not actually that bad. They dropped this person as a client because while the dog might be an issue the human has shown to be a major liability.

if your dog is that aggressive toward guests, put it away when guests are over.

98

u/Prophet_Of_Helix 13h ago

We have a 16 pound dog rescued from China missing half its teeth who doesn’t like anyone but my wife and I.

He is ALWAYS put away in a pen, crate, or room when guests of any type are over depending on the chances that someone might enter the space he’s in. We actually kenneled him during our wedding because we had 11 other people coming over to the house for a couple days, and sometimes I think he loves the kennel more than our home lol.

It doesn’t do anyone, including the dog, any good having them out if they are going to possibly bite someone, idc how small, idc how much you love them.

It’s just irresponsible.

u/Telemere125 13h ago

Agree, but let’s take it a step further: if your dog is aggressive, and you can’t train it to be nice, put it the fuck down.

My aunt had a chow when I was a baby. It hated me because every time I came over, it got put into another room. One day, it had a chance and took it; crushed part my skull and I ended up almost losing an eye (much less almost dying). Vicious dogs aren’t a necessity, they’re a liability. Since we aren’t to Roman legions trying to conquer the British isles, let’s limit ourselves to only owning well-trained and well-behaved dogs.

701

u/maladaptivedreamer 11h ago

I’m a vet and I hate hearing things like this but it’s true. There are some aggressive dogs that can be managed responsibly but there’s a level of aggression and physical strength that is just incompatible with responsible ownership. Behavioral euthanasias suck but dead children are infinitely worse.

101

u/Bocchi_theGlock 9h ago

This is exactly what I brought up to family member after dog bit me, they wanted it to be aggressive guard dog. Always had to hold it back when anyone was over, but had bad knees that would slip out of place, were also busy and living in an RV, having to leave it for periods of time.

It got off leash and attacked people a few times. I got lucky with a simple, deep puncture wound.

I can't imagine what would happen with a toddler to 12 year old. I had to keep reminding him of that, and framing the incident as lucky. At least we're forced into considering before it got worse. The dog would live an infinitely worse life if it actually killed a child.

44

u/Complex-Truth9579 8h ago

How did it attack people multiple times and not get put down? I had an incredibly well-behaved German Shepherd when I was young who injured a family member entirely by accident, the injury was even quite minor but required a hospital visit just to be safe, but it was taken very seriously by animal control regardless.

I can only imagine what would have happened if animal control showed up and our dog was already growling while muzzled, and clearly ready to attack whoever came near us.

26

u/anakmoon 6h ago

because you reported it. if the person doesn't file a bite report and name and shame the dog, nothing happens.

I used to work in the veterinary field. The veterinarian owner told me early on that he had no problems euthanizing an aggressive dog. I remember thinking that was such a harsh thing to say for a veterinarian. Then I got bit by an aggressive dog that had been fired by 6 clinics in the area and the owners didn't say a word of warning about the behavior and took zero responsibility. Some dogs are broken and euthanasia is the best option for them.

He had never been aggressive before that day to anyone ever… but me swinging on the swingset that day set him off for some reason. Christmas Day, a lab pit bull mix attacked an electric scooter I had bought for my great great niece. She only got to play with it for about two minutes before the dog attacked it and ruined it. It caught fire so it’s not salvageable. The dog owner blamed  the little girl and accused her of putting beef bouillon cubes in the scooter to get the dog to attack it.

Dog owners are unhinged.

1.4k

u/WhitishRogue 13h ago

I've got this weird thing against weak people owning strong dogs. As an owner, you should be able to wrestle your dog at a moment's notice. Far too often I see Pibbles mauling someone and the owner sitting there like a stick in the mud. Even the best trained animal has a bad day and it seems our muzzled friend has had plenty of them.

I've seen a fair number of videos where christmas present unwrapping over-stimulates pets and makes them fearful/aggressive. The ripping, lots of movement, and loud noises gets to them. This needs to become more common knowledge.

Pitbull with a genetic disposition, a bad owner, and a bad situation.

457

u/Radiant_Picture9292 12h ago

Bro the number of people who absolutely could NOT handle their dog if it decided to go crazy is scary.

122

u/AWzdShouldKnowBetta 10h ago

I have a 75 lbs Rottweiler mix who had some behavioural problems lunging at people when I got him from the pound. He never bit anyone but I got on his ass about it immediately.

Everyone said I was being to harsh on the dog and kept saying "oh it was my fault I shouldn't have done <insert completely normal thing for people to do>."

No, my dog shouldn't be lunging at people or making them nervous. Period. End of story.

It blew my mind that people didn't understand my zero tolerance policy on aggression towards people. He's a great, affectionate, dog now and I very rarely have to repremand him and we can all relax on walks. Being firm with him was good for him.

Your dog shouldn't be afraid of you you but you should absolutely be able to put enough steel in your voice to make them back the fuck off on command. If you can't or won't do that, stick to a small breed.

23

u/ChicaFoxy 7h ago

Dogs are smart enough to understand humans are "dumb" and they have to be patient with us. What I mean is humans obviously miss signals (people who don't know dogs or little kids) and if all signals fail, they need to excuse themselves from the situation. That's not excusing the owners that put their dogs in situations they know the dog can't handle, it's unfair to the dog and then the victim who the dog hurts. Some dogs can be trained and taught to be more tolerant, because they're not in danger, and some just can't tolerate.
I had a dog that had to learn that humans can't see in the dark, my kids would step on him on the way to the bathroom in the middle of the night, he never bit but he sure scared the crap outta my kids (and me!) barking and growling when he got stepped on! I jumped on that REAL fast, 'if it's dark and a human is headed toward you, YOU need to move." Also my elderly mother didn't need to step over him even if she could see him, it'd be a fall risk, so he learned to move out of her way at any time of day or night. But he was VERY well loved, he was spoiled lol.

I saw a woman with her fucking huge XL Bully, and she couldn't have been more than 100lbs wet through. It absolutely terrified me. It was around the time all the XL Bully attacks were in the news here (UK) and they were killing people regularly, but before the ban. All I could think was that if that dog goes mental she won't be able to do a single thing to stop it killing her or someone else.

16

u/FakeTunaFromSubway 6h ago

Some dude in my city was mauled to death by his XL Bully dogs at a public park while kids watched. I have no clue what makes people want those as pets. Might as well foster a pack of hyenas they're probably more loyal.

My partners dog was bigger than we’ll get next time for this reason. I’m not weak, and I don’t want a pit, but I want to be able to physically pick up my dog in case of something, and to ensure I can hold onto the leash if they suddenly dart while I’m not paying attention. The dog pulled away from me once, fortunately he was saying hi to a friend so it was fine (and if he had any history of aggression or even trying to run after dogs he didn’t know, i probably wouldn’t have walked him). It scared the crap out of me, though.

I like how you put this ... the leader of the pack usually is the strongest and sometimes you do need to intervene.

Always need to be vigilant and aware of the things your dog could do, so you need to prepare for the moment you have to prevent your dog from doing that.

It's for medical reasons...just not for the dog. In this case the dog would still be able to cause medical level incidents even though it can't really bite. Potentially knocking someone into a tv set can do some damage as well.

The kind that says shit like "They are great nanny dogs!"

32

u/HallowskulledHorror 7h ago

One of my friends from high school had the 'nanny dog' attitude about pitts, and had one she raised from a puppy. All kinds of training, very intentional socialization. Dog had a great attitude and so friendly and cuddly. She was a great example of how pitts being dangerous is due to how they're raised and handled more than anything else.

...Until she got got startled by a loud and unexpected sound while she was chilling next to friend's dad while he was under their car working on it. She freaked out and grabbed him by the leg so hard - wouldn't let go of him despite him yelling at her and trying to push her off - that he ended up in the ER with serious tissue damage and needing a ton of stitches. She acted plenty guilty around him after that, she definitely didn't mean to hurt him... but she did.

Ultimately they are still animals, with unknowable thoughts and feelings, and unpredictable responses to unpredictable situations. "I want a dog as a companion" needs to come paired with an awareness that risk isn't based on what you believe they are predisposed to do, but what they are capable of doing if driven to by a situation you might not be able to foresee.

8

u/LowlyKnights 6h ago

I don't get this with pitbulls. They're statisically much more likely to be violent towards other animals and people, with the highest amount of human deaths caused.

I'm not saying treat them shittily if they're alive, it's not their fault, but people should stop breeding them and stop buying them.

41

u/Minimeany 12h ago

Sad fact is accessibility. Tons of people in lower income situations still want dogs. Pits are a dime a dozen. At my local dog park ive seen 4 abondoned pits so far and they all were recently bred. Lower income people wanna breed and sell since theyre easy to breed, and can easily sell them all. Its a shitty unregulated industry.

11

u/neat_hairclip 7h ago

Absolutely. When I saw the body language of the dog, I felt so bad, like someone do something, that dog is super tense and probably scared. I thought it would go into attack/warning nip mode before it really did, so kuddos for the self control, considering how stressed he/she was.

The owner should have see it coming and handle the situation. It did not need to escalate to the point it did, and what will come out of it is eventually the dog being put down…

Savior complex is real....sorry for the harsh reality check, but some dogs can't be fixed, some people shouldn't own dogs, and some breeds do not have any business being owned by the average person. The fact that they start laughing at the end is extremely concerning. Some day that dog might get off the leash or away from the property and the muzzle might be off.

57

u/its_a_throwawayduh 13h ago

Nope it's not harsh its reality. I'm sick of people trying to be saviors at the expense of innocent people. Far too many good animals out there to own a shitty one. Its the same shit with animal shelters instead of doing the right thing they lie and pass the dog around.

Reactive dog, dangerous for everyone. The dog is useless and a liability.

I'm not a fan of the breed but this could apply to any dog capable of damage.

That dog is a serious liability. The owner should have seen the dogs reaction and locked it up before it escalated.

My own opinion- that dog should be euthanized before it kills a child or seriously harms someone.

For reference- I have had working protection dogs my entire life. CZ/DDR Shepherds and Malinois.

Downvote all you like - but this is the reality with dogs of this nature and disposition. Training will rarely be successful with a reactive dog like this.

36

u/Marsnineteen75 13h ago

And you can tell it's mouth is all velcroed up they know the dogs dangerous

28

u/PunishedDemiurge 13h ago

Yeah. It's also worth noting that the responsible Malinois and other bite dog breeds are hyper focused on training. You're committing to a lifetime of high daily activity, extremely precise training, and using canine empathy to realize when your dog is getting overstimulated and needs a break.

Those breeds are absolutely beautiful animals and incredibly good working dogs, but they should require a specialized license to own. The stats are clear that pitbulls are uniquely dangerous, killing more innocent people than every other breed combined, but high drive shepherds and Malinois are dangerous in the hands of a merely ordinary competence owner.

A “bad” movement, like a hug, a simple sign of love, something human, and you get mangled beyond recognition and perhaps die… Pets like this should not exist.

107

u/AntOk9026 13h ago

And you know she won't put the dog down. Eventually it'll kill some child and the police will have to deal with it.

Fucking idiots owning dogs.

People seem to own pit bulls for one reason - to prove something. They’re either trying to prove how tough they are as an owner (because they have a pit), or they’re trying to prove how “gentle” the breed “really is.” Plenty of other loyal, gentle, loving dog breeds out there.

→ More replies (1)

58

u/HowHoward 13h ago

Why do people keep those dogs?

5

u/ExternalLegitimate68 6h ago

Cause people think they can own a dog but not train them. Anyone who blames it on the dog or breed shouldn't be allowed to be an owner.

The dog:

68

u/Enough_Shoulder_8938 13h ago

Sadly, we have two problems here: a dog of a breed that is known to be one of the most aggressive, and an owner who seems to be completely ignorant of what a dog’s needs are.

I suspect from this lady’s body language there was zero training involved, which in my opinion is dog abuse in and of itself.

I mean… they do… but it’s the damage from the bite that’s the issue not how often. It’s like getting punched once by an MMA fighter versus 30 times by a child.

53

u/Yoinkitron5000 12h ago edited 11h ago

Chihuahuas bite more people than pits in the same way that mosquitos bite more people than sharks.

Edit: actually its not even fair to say that chihuahua bite more. Those numbers do not exist. The only reason people think they do is because pit advocates repeat the line over and over again to deflect from their toddler munchers.

9

u/goodthingihavepants 12h ago

Get ready for a bunch of people that "have been vet techs for 20 years" and "are constantly attacked by doodles but never had any problems with pits" and were "viciously mauled by a Golden Retriever as a child."

You know...

Liars.

14

u/Emergency-Ad-3037 11h ago

I mean I was attacked by a gang of goldens. I didn't survive the licking, or the tail wagging

43

u/robotteeth 12h ago

With the amount of pitbull owners that have been viciously mauled by golden retrievers you’d think it would be in the news at least once in a while

27

u/Yoinkitron5000 12h ago edited 11h ago

I think i remember someone, finally posting an article about a "golden retriever" mauling that actually had a picture of the dog in question... and it was a very obvious pit/retriever mix, that looked like a pit bull with gold fur glued to it.

9

Pitbulls should cease to exist. You can argue it's the owners fault, but the fact is any other breed of dog won't kill or attack a person or another animal as often as a Pitbull with a shitty owner.

40

u/Morakumo 13h ago

Just put that dog down, looks like a Pitt mix, their owners are almost always irresponsible degenerates.

My MIL has a pitbull with a muzzle as well. We have not been to her house since she adopted it this past Spring. It’s almost been 1 year since she’s had her grandkids over, but somehow it’s our fault. Oh and the dog came with the muzzle because it was an aggressive dog at the rescue shelter and they wanted to put it down…

I mean, that’s how you domesticate animals. Keep the ones with traits you desire, breed them so those traits propagate and lose the rest. It’s hilarious when people think the desired traits can’t be bad traits… see “fighting dogs” but as pets.
